Senior Charlie Bloomer, the co-editor-in-chief of the Pioneer Press, was named the 2025 Oregon High School Journalist of the Year by the Oregon Journalism Education Association. She is now a candidate for the National High School Journalist of the Year, which will be announced at the Spring National High School Journalism Convention in Seattle on April 26. The state award comes with a $1,000 scholarship.
Bloomer submitted an online portfolio of her work, transcripts, letters of recommendation and an analytical essay about her journalistic life. She is the fourth Sandy student to win the award - the first since 2010.
