Ten Sandy High School (SHS) students competed at the 2023 FFA Convention in Indianapolis last week, earning numerous recognitions, including the 3rd Overall National Team for AG Communications (utilizing different media communication, including website, video and writing), comprised of Allie Koester, Kay Jones, Gracie Baker and 2023 SHS graduate Frances Fancher; High Scoring Opinion Writer, Frances Fancher; High Scoring Journalistic Writer, Gracie Baker; and 3rd High Individual, Gracie Baker.
Baker also was a national finalist in the Agriscience Fair in the area of Food Systems. She received 8th overall in the national with her project, which tested the use of milk alternatives in baking.
The students also were able to explore the region as part of the trip.
"We had a great trip visiting Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, the Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood and the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington on our way to Indianapolis," said Trisha Smith, Sandy FFA Advisor and SHS Agriculture Teacher. "The FFA students who competed had a great trip and we should all be proud of how we were represented by our students from Sandy."
